Dante Alighieri (1265 - 1321) -
Italian National Epic Poet
Durante Degli Alighieri, born in 13th century A.D., is better known by all as Dante Alighieri, or simply Dante. He was a famous Italian poet from Florence. Presumably, a self educated person, his interests brought him to discover the beauty of Italian and Latin poetry of classical antiquity. In addition to his interests in writing verses, he was a keen up-to-date intellectual with international interests.
He was a great multitasking person of his times. Though having prime interests in poetry, he gave a boost to his career as a politician, doctor and a pharmacist as well. As a politician, though he couldn’t perform as per his abilities, yet he held various offices over a number of years in a city undergoing some political agitation. He was greatly admired as a poet by all. His work, THE DIVINE COMEDY, is truly one of the masterpieces of the global literature |
